Chronology of cameras Comptoir Bonaparte

From Photo-Revue 1899

The Paulo-Liliput is a handheld camera, but a handheld camera of tiny dimensions, which constitutes one of the most interesting novelties of this season (the figures opposite represent a "Paulo at one-third of its real size, 6.5 x 9 cm format); built of metal, it is nonetheless very light, and when closed, including its magazine, it is only 7 centimeters thick.

The manufacturer commonly produces it in three formats: 6.5 x 9 cm, 9 x 12 cm, and 7 x 15 cm (stereoscopic); it is equipped with a top-quality lens, very bright and very fine; the high-efficiency shutter allows the best possible use of light and thus enables snapshots in the most unfavorable conditions; moreover, Berthiot, Durogy, Zeiss lenses, etc., can also be fitted on the Paulo.
The variable-speed shutter also allows for long exposures; it operates by bulb or by hand; a ground glass allows focusing as with an ordinary tripod camera; when using the Paulo as a handheld camera, a graduation allows for automatic focusing when the subject is closer than the hyperfocal distance (which varies with each lens).

The Paulo’s magazine can hold either glass plates or 18 flexible plates at will; rigid films, which manufacturers are now able to supply under good conditions of price, preservation, and quality, will be used advantageously.

With its low weight and dimensions much smaller than common cameras, the Paulo easily fits into a pocket regardless of its format; moreover, thanks to a very ingenious special camera, it is enough to have a soft leather pocket, specially designed for this purpose, to be able to load and unload the magazine instantly even during an excursion.

In short, the Paulo is the ideal camera for the tourist, the serious amateur photographer, wishing to bring back the largest possible proportion of good shots from their travels.

Price of the Paulo-Liliput, with film magazine and extra-fast Jarret lens in 6.5 x 9 cm: 200 francs; in 9 x 12 cm: 275 francs.
